Term 4 Week 2

Congratulations to Anton for receiving the learning certificate this week!

This week we have learnt about angles.  There are four angles; right angle, straight angle, acute angle and obtuse angle.  A right angle is 90 degrees, a straight angle is 180 degrees, an acute angle is less than 90 degrees and an obtuse angle is wider than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees.  We have also been learning about persuasive writing.  We learnt that you need to have 5 paragraphs including a conclusion and an introductions.  You must have at least three reasons.

Term 4 Week 1

Congratulations to Amelia for receiving the Character Certificate this week

This term we are looking forward to Athletics and Natural Disasters.  Also we are doing ICT instead of Music and we are making our own blogs.  The Writing we are focusing on this term is Persuasive Writing.  We are going to try and persuade Mr Marwick to get the school a Flying Fox!  Mrs Scanlan is teaching us about a Growth mindset versus a Fixed Mindset.  For example, I give up (Fixed mindset) or this may take some time and effort (Growth).  In Art today we did Monoprinting.  Monoprinting means a print that only happens once.

Plays Week 10 Term 3

We have been learning how to present a play to entertain an audience this week.  We had to organise the play ourselves and make sure we all got a part.  We had to organised props and make anything that we needed.  We really had to focus on making sure we could be understood when we delivered our lines by speaking clearly and loudly enough. Term 3 Class Thoughts!

I enjoyed making the calendar art because it was a bit hard to get the perfect amount of water on the brush.

I liked learning about the different types of planets in the Solar System.  I also liked learning about fractions.

I found it hard moving to a new maths group as it was getting my brain challenged.

Dancing Raisins

When a base and an acid mix it makes a gas.
If you put the raisin in the gas (which are the bubbles) the gas will stick to the ridges on the raisins.
The raisin will float to the top and the bubbles will pop.  It goes back down and collects more gas.
It will keep happening until there is no more gas.

The vinegar fizzed because a Base and an Acid were mixed together to make gas.
The bubbles stuck to the raisins because the raisin were wrinkly.
The raisins danced in the vinegar because the bubbles stuck to the raisin and lifted them to the top. Then the bubbles escaped from the raisins and the raisins sank to the bottom to get new bubbles.

Vinegar is an acid and bicarbonate of soda is a base.  When acids and bases mix, there is usually a reaction.  In this case there is a reaction.
The reaction is the vinegar starts overflowing and the bubbles start fizzing.  
If you put raisins in the vinegar they will sink to the bottom of the cup.  Then the bubbles lift the raisins up. But when they evaporate (the bubbles) they will sink to the bottom again. The raisins will do this a lot, it will look like they are dancing.

The raisins dance because of the bubbles that nest in the holes of the raisin.  The raisin is heavy enough to carry the bubbles to the bottom.  But if there are to many bubbles, the bubbles will lift the raisins up and pop.  Thereby making it fall and do the circuit again. 
If there is a lid keeping the carbon dioxide in, it'll go boom and shred the cup to pieces.
